Lyceum students from Kazan won gold and silver at the Chinese Mathematics Olympiad.

      Students of Boarding Lyceum No. 2 of Kazan and the N. I. Lobachevsky Lyceum of Kazan Federal University, Maxim Bolshakov and Mikhail Vasiliev, won gold and silver medals as part of the Russian team at the Chinese National Mathematics Olympiad held in the city of Taiyuan, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education reports.

      In addition to Bolshakov, the gold medal was won by Andrey Shishko from the Moscow lyceum "Second School" named after V. F. Ovchinnikov.

      Besides Vasiliev, silver medals were awarded to Arina Prokudina and Ivan Kokorev from Chelyabinsk Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 31.

      Ivan Belyaev from the Khimki school "Novogorsk" won a bronze medal. Thus, all members of the Russian team received medals. Earlier, all of them became winners and prizewinners of the All-Russian Schoolchildren Olympiad.

      The head of the Russian team was Professor Fedor Petrov of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saint Petersburg State University. His deputies were additional education teacher at the Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum No. 239 Alexander Kuznetsov and SPbSU student Galiya Sharafetdinova.

      The winners were congratulated by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Russia’s Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.

      "Congratulations to the kids on the excellent result! As our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin says, it is important that mathematics and the natural sciences captivate young people. Technological leadership will be theirs in the future. I thank the teachers, mentors and parents for supporting the students and helping with their preparation. These medals are a great gift to the whole country ahead of Mathematics Day. I wish the youngsters to continually expand their knowledge and to confidently follow their chosen path!" Chernyshenko said.

      Sergey Kravtsov, in turn, noted that the Chinese National Mathematics Olympiad became for the schoolchildren "an excellent preparatory venue before participating in the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad." That tournament will be held in Shanghai in July 2026. "I wish the young people energy, inspiration and new bright victories," he added.
