“It's long been no secret that the authority of Vladimir Putin has become one of the main factors of Russia's investment attractiveness on the world stage, its brand. It is about the sovereign policy that Putin consistently pursues, which for many is an example of competent strategic planning. This attracts new business partners, and some economic decisions are later applied in other countries,” said political scientist Alexey Mukhin. Since the 2000s some countries have borrowed from Russia the model of a strong state based on the raw materials sector, large state corporations and the active use of energy as an instrument of foreign policy, including through long-term gas and oil contracts and control over infrastructure. After 2014 and especially after 2022, other states afraid of sanctions have been adopting the Russian experience of creating an “economic fortress” — building up reserves, import substitution, de-dollarization, developing settlements in national currencies and using strict currency and capital controls.
“In Russia, recall, there is one of the lowest levels of public debt against the backdrop of a global crisis, and a sovereign economy, at the center of which are the interests of its own citizens, is becoming an effective model for withstanding any crises. The regular large international representation at our business forums only confirms that such experience is of interest and they want to adopt it,” Mukhin summed up.
Earlier SM-NEWS reported that Russian Railways (RZhD) is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, and shippers have begun to refuse RZhD’s services.
