Oleg Morozov: "KazanForum is our strategic bridge to allied countries"

      Russian President Vladimir Putin, answering during a direct line to a question from "Tatar-inform" journalist Artur Khaliullov, noted the significance of the International Economic Forum "Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum" for the country and for strengthening ties with international partners. Representatives of Tatarstan on the Expert Club platform reacted to the assessment given by the head of state.

      Member of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan Evgenia Khramova noted that KazanForum is an important mechanism of parallel diplomacy at the current stage of development of foreign economic and foreign policy relations. According to her, Tatarstan, like a number of other regions, ensures concrete directions for international communications.

      "Tatarstan has for many years effectively linked Russia with the Greater East and Asia. From year to year these ties are not only preserved but also develop and strengthen," stressed the representative of the Center for Innovative Development and Technology Transfer.

      Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy Maxim Topilin noted that KazanForum has become an important platform for strengthening international ties and broadening the horizons of cooperation. In his words, the event demonstrates Russia's commitment to open dialogue and readiness for mutually beneficial partnerships with various countries of the world.

      "Particular attention is paid to the development of the investment climate and attracting foreign investment into the Russian economy, including through instruments such as partnership financing. The mechanism is currently being implemented in experimental mode in four Russian regions," the parliamentarian reminded, adding that demonstrating the possibilities of partnership financing to representatives of other countries subsequently leads to agreements on implementing new projects.

      "Interactions with delegations from various countries are an important part of the program. During the current forum I held a meeting with a delegation from the Gabonese Republic and the country's ambassador. [...] Representatives of Gabon noted the high level of organization of the forum and expressed admiration for the culture and history of Tatarstan," Topilin shared from his personal experience.

      Member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation representing Tatarstan Olga Pavlova called KazanForum "a strategic bridge between Russia and the countries of the Global South, especially the Islamic world." This is confirmed by the forum's long history, which began back in 2009, and its growing role in strengthening international ties, she clarified.

      The public figure mentioned the "North–South" transport corridor. In her view, the creation of alternative trade routes through Iran and Pakistan to the Indian Ocean demonstrates Russia's desire to diversify its foreign economic ties.

      "Large-scale projects in Tatarstan, including the construction of bridges across the Volga and Kama, as well as the implementation of the M12 highway, confirm the seriousness of the intentions to develop the transport corridor. These infrastructure facilities are part of a broader strategy of integration with the Global South," she emphasized.

      "The 'turn to the East,'" Pavlova added, "is reflected in the growing importance of the Asian direction of Russia's foreign trade. Against this background, the forum becomes a platform for strengthening ties with key Asian partners, first and foremost China and India. And the Strategic Vision Group 'Russia – Islamic World' chaired by the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov demonstrates that KazanForum is not only an economic but also a cultural and political platform. It discusses cooperation in the fields of sport, culture and the preservation of spiritual values, as well as digitalization and innovation."

      "[...] the thesis that KazanForum connects Russia with the Global South is fully confirmed by the forum's multifaceted activities, covering economic, infrastructure, cultural and technological aspects of cooperation," Olga Pavlova concluded.

      Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Control Oleg Morozov emphasized that he "fully" shares and supports the assessment of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. "KazanForum is not just a regional or even federal platform, it is our strategic bridge to allied countries, to the Islamic world, to the dynamically developing Global South," he explained.

      The politician considered holding the forum specifically in Kazan to be natural and symbolic. The republic, "for centuries an example of harmonious unity of cultures, traditions and religions, has become an ideal focal point for this dialogue," he explained.

      "I am convinced that in 2026 the forum will reach a new level. As a deputy from Tatarstan, I see my task as ensuring that each such project receives maximum support at the federal level," the parliamentarian stressed.

      In conclusion Oleg Morozov drew attention to the fact that KazanForum is a "practical response to the challenges of the time." "[...] and I am proud that Tatarstan makes such a significant contribution to strengthening Russia's international positions," he summed up.
