Starting in January, the cost of hot meals in Kazan schools will be indexed.

Thus, from January the a la carte menu will cost 93 rubles (previously 89 rubles), the set meal – 66 rubles (previously 63 rubles), breakfast or afternoon snack – 45 rubles (previously 43 rubles), and soup separately – 21 rubles (previously 20 rubles).

      Note that the last time the price of school meals changed was in January 2025. According to forecasts by the Central Bank of Russia, inflation in the country for 2025 will amount to 7%.

      The increase in school meal prices in Kazan will be 4.5–5%, which is below the growth of consumer prices. This was achieved thanks to purchasing large volumes of products through tenders directly from producers.

      Recall that all primary school students, some 77,000 children in the current school year, are provided with free hot meals under the federal program to provide free hot meals to primary school pupils.

      In addition, hot meals are provided free of charge through targeted funding from Kazan’s budget to pupils in grades 5–11 who belong to eligible categories. Currently, preferential meals are received by children from socially disadvantaged families, children of citizens participating in the special military operation, and children with disabilities — more than 15,000 children, or 18% of the total number of Kazan high school students.

      The menu currently in effect at all general education institutions in Kazan complies with the "Sanitary requirements for organizing nutrition for students in general education institutions." The menu takes into account seasonality, the necessary amounts of major nutrients and the required caloric content of the daily diet, differentiated by students’ age categories.

      The Department of Nutrition works with the largest Tatarstan producers: "Kazan Dairy Plant", JSC "Kazan Bread Factory No. 3", LLC "Kazan Bread Factory No. 2", LLC "Vivid" (Bugulma), JSC "Kazan Fat Processing Plant", production and trading firm "Zolotoy Kazan", JSC "Zelenodolsk Dairy Plant", LLC "Kasymovsky Dairy Plant", LLC "Bugulma Dairy Plant", CJSC "Alekseevsky Milk-and-Canning Plant", JSC "Bakery and Confectionery Plant", JSC "Yelabuga Meat Canning Plant", LLC "Pestrechinka", JSC "KukmorAgroChemService", LLC "Kazan Mill" and others. The share of local suppliers in total purchases of products for children’s nutrition is about 80%.

      Despite the current increase, the cost of school meals in Kazan will remain one of the lowest compared with other million-plus cities. According to open sources, the cost of a school lunch in Ufa is 95 rubles, in Cheboksary – 122 rubles, in Yekaterinburg – 128 rubles, in Penza – 138 rubles, and in Moscow it can reach 291 rubles.

      Recall that the Department of Food and Social Catering of Kazan has been organizing catering and supplying products to general education, preschool institutions and healthcare institutions since 2006. Today the enterprise provides meals for more than 308,000 people daily.
