An increase in ARVI and influenza has been recorded in Tatarstan: the epidemic threshold has been exceeded by 11%.

      More than 80% of laboratory-confirmed cases are due to influenza A(H3N2), known as the “Hong Kong” strain. Rospotrebnadzor characterizes the situation as calm compared with last year.

      The Republic of Tatarstan is experiencing a seasonal rise in acute respiratory viral infections. According to the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor, in the current 51st calendar week the overall incidence of ARVI and influenza exceeded the calculated epidemiological threshold by 11%. The current statistics were announced by the agency’s deputy head, Lyubov Avdonina.

      The expert noted that despite exceeding the threshold, the epidemiological situation in the region is assessed as stable and less intense than in the same period last year. “For comparison, I will say that the 2023–2024 season was more intense. Then in the 51st week the epidemic threshold was exceeded by 31%,” Avdonina commented, stressing the relative calm of the current situation.

      Laboratory monitoring reveals a clear structure of circulating viruses. The absolutely dominant pathogen is influenza virus type A(H3N2), the so‑called “Hong Kong” flu. It accounts for 81% of all sequenced cases. This strain is known for a fairly wide range of symptoms, including high fever, severe headache and muscle pain.

      At the same time, specialists are monitoring the situation with coronavirus infection. COVID-19 incidence in Tatarstan remains at a stable, low level. During the reporting week 283 new cases were confirmed, which does not exert significant pressure on the overall epidemiological picture.

      The Rospotrebnadzor Directorate for the Republic of Tatarstan reminds residents of the importance of preventive measures during periods of increased viral activity. Key recommendations include:

      - Wearing masks in places of mass gatherings.

      - Thorough hand hygiene.

      - Regular ventilation of premises.

      - Timely vaccination against influenza, which remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness.

      - Consulting a doctor at the first symptoms of illness (high fever, cough, sore throat) and avoiding self-medication.

      The current situation is under the control of sanitary physicians. Residents of the republic are advised to take responsibility for their health and observe precautions to reduce the risk of infection.
