State Duma deputies, led by Deputy Speaker Vladislav Davankov, appealed to Labor Minister Anton Kotyakov with an initiative to introduce new guarantees for employees working on New Year's Eve. The proposal calls for the mandatory provision of three additional paid days off for those who work the night from December 31 to January 1.
The parliamentarians noted that many specialists in healthcare, transport, housing and utilities, trade and emergency services are forced to work during the holiday period. Under the current Labor Code of the Russian Federation, work on New Year's Eve does not have special compensation conditions, which, in the deputies' view, requires changes.
The authors of the initiative believe that introducing additional days off would be a fair compensation and a sign of public recognition for workers in critically important sectors. It could also help reduce staffing strain and increase employee motivation.
