      The Government of Russia has allowed the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to redirect unused funds that were originally allocated for the development of a wide-body long-haul aircraft to the modernization of two key domestic aviation projects — the Tu-214 and the MS-21.

      According to the published order, up to 400 million rubles will be allocated to extend the service life of communications units on Tu-214 aircraft used by the Special Flight Detachment "Russia". Up to another 2.2 billion rubles will go to improving the characteristics of the MS-21-310, including reducing its weight. The work is to be completed by the end of 2027–2028.

      The Tu-214 is produced at the Kazan Aircraft Plant. After sanctions were imposed, it was decided to increase its output by replacing foreign components with Russian ones. The MS-21-310, in turn, became heavier after the departure of foreign partners, which reduced its range. The modernization is intended to correct this shortcoming and increase the competitiveness of both models.
