The Russian government will submit proposals to introduce mandatory pre-trial settlement of family disputes with the participation of a mediator. This was reported by TASS, citing the action plan under the Strategy of Actions for the Implementation of Family and Demographic Policy until 2036.
The changes will affect the Federal Law "On the Alternative Procedure for the Resolution of Disputes with the Participation of a Mediator (mediation procedure)." In particular, proceedings on a dispute will be suspended for the duration of the mediation.
Spouses will also be required to attend a meeting with a mediator, especially in cases involving children. As part of the initiative, it is planned to create a unified register of mediators specializing in the resolution of family disputes and intra-family conflicts involving children.
The Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Finance have been appointed responsible for preparing the draft law. The implementation of the initiative is planned to take two years.
