The State Duma announced a new simplified admissions procedure for medical colleges.

      Applicants who have signed a target contract with hospitals will have an advantage when applying to medical colleges regardless of their grades, State Duma Health Protection Committee Chairman Sergey Leonov (LDPR) told TASS in an interview.

      The deputy noted that this provision applies to students planning to train as nurses, male nurses or feldshers. He also stressed that the rule is included in the law on the mandatory work commitment of medical university graduates after training under a target contract and has received the support of the Russian government.

      The law was approved during the 2025 autumn session. Budget-funded students enrolled in residency programs will, in their first academic year, be required to sign target contracts if offers are available and they meet the employer's requirements. In addition, a mentorship program of at least three years is being introduced for graduates who pass accreditation for the first time.
