The materials obtained illegally were used by the man for blackmail – he demanded intimate relations from the victim, threatening to disseminate compromising recordings in the public domain. The case was investigated under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including violation of privacy (Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and extortion (Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum punishment under the cumulative articles can reach 5 years of imprisonment. It was previously reported that a man, who had a quarrel with his neighbor, decided to place a live grenade from the Great Patriotic War in her wardrobe with her underwear. A few days later, the woman contacted the police. A criminal case was opened against the man, who, according to law enforcement representatives, had previously been repeatedly held criminally liable for various offenses, under Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal storage of explosives").
