UNICS suffered its first defeat in two months against Uralmash.
Kazan UNICS suffered its first defeat in over two months in an away match of the WINLINE Basket Cup against Yekaterinburg's Uralmash with a score of 77:74. Due to injuries, several key players of the "greens" such as Paris Lee, CJ Bryce, and forward Dishon Pierre did not play in the match. UNICS started the game confidently and disciplined, allowing only one turnover in the first 15 minutes. Thanks to accurate long-range shots and activity under the basket, the Kazan team created a solid 16-point lead (37:21) by the middle of the second quarter. It seemed that the team was fully in control of the game. However, motivated hosts, charged by the support of their home crowd, reduced the gap before the halftime break. After the pause, they continued to apply pressure, and by the middle of the third quarter, not only caught up with the opponent (45:45) but also took the lead. UNICS's game faltered: the team began to make numerous unsuccessful attempts from afar, losing the initiative. In the fourth quarter, the competition became even fiercer. After another tie (59:59), Uralmash made a decisive run (7:1), and then, with two and a half minutes left, created a double-digit lead for the first time (75:65). UNICS managed to cut the deficit in the closing moments, and in the final seconds had several clear chances to equalize with three-point shots. However, none of those shots found the target, and the victory remained with the Yekaterinburg team. Head coach Velimir Perasovic congratulated the opponent and pointed out the main mistake: "Today we tried to make too many three-point shots... we have strong basketball players focused on playing in the paint. This became our main mistake." The captain of the "greens," Dmitry Kulagin, noted the support of the crowd as the "x-factor of victory." He emphasized that the Kazan team missed several opportunities at the end: "Especially at the end, we had four chances to equalize... however, we could not capitalize on our advantage."
