The Russian gold reserves increased in value by a record $130 billion over the year, thanks to a significant rise in gold prices. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing an analysis of data from the Central Bank. As of January 1, 2025, the value of gold in Russian storage was estimated at $195.7 billion. At the beginning of the current year, this figure reached $326.5 billion. The increase in value was mainly due to a rally in the precious metals market: during this period, the price of gold rose 1.7 times – from $2,600 to $4,400 per troy ounce. At the same time, the physical volume of Russia's gold reserves slightly decreased over the year – by 0.2 million troy ounces, or about 6.2 tons.
The share of gold in the country's reserves at the beginning of January was 43.3%. In comparison, the currency portion of the reserves increased by only 3.6% during the same period, reaching $428.3 billion.
