The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan reported on the preparation for spring fieldwork.

      The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan and Minister of Agriculture and Food of Tatarstan, Marat Zyabbarov, reported today at a meeting in the House of Government of Tatarstan on the progress of preparations for spring fieldwork and the state of the breeding livestock industry. This was reported by the press service of the President of Tatarstan. The meeting was held via video conference with all municipal districts by the President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The Prime Minister of Tatarstan, Alexey Pesoshin, also participated in the meeting.

      In Tatarstan, the processing of sugar beets has been completed: 275 thousand tons of sugar were produced, which corresponds to last year's level. The area for this crop is planned to be maintained at 53 thousand hectares. Currently, 72% of seeds have been contracted, with major deliveries expected in the second half of April.

      Additionally, 220 thousand tons of grain seeds have been checked in the republic (89% of the total volume). Farms have already contracted 82% of corn seeds and 68% of sunflower seeds. The volume of accumulated fertilizers, taking into account autumn application, is 49 kg of active substance per hectare.

      The Minister highlighted the successes in dairy farming. By the end of 2025, Tatarstan produced 2 million 378 thousand tons of milk, which is 90 thousand tons more than the previous year's figures. Thus, the farms of the republic accounted for 52% of the total increase in milk production in Russia.

      The region has the largest herd of breeding dairy cows in the country – 74,560 heads. Over the year, it has grown by 8%. One of the indicators of the effectiveness of breeding work is the productivity of the milking herd: on average, each cow in breeding farms produces 10,398 kg of milk, which is 1,525 kg higher than the average figure for the republic.

      To develop the industry, 30 high-tech complexes for 28 thousand places have been built since 2020. Marat Zyabbarov associates further growth with genomic selection. Last year, three farms conducted genotyping of 5,450 heads, and this year they plan to double the research. Federal subsidies are provided for these purposes, covering up to 70% of laboratory analysis costs, and funds are also allocated for the maintenance of breeding maternal livestock.
