Interactive stands inspired by Shishkin's paintings will appear in "Nizhny Kama."
The National Park "Lower Kama" is preparing for a new stage of its development. Thanks to winning a presidential grant competition, a unique tourist attraction will be created here — interactive easel stands inspired by the paintings of the great Russian artist Ivan Shishkin. Visitors will be able to see for themselves how the landscapes captured by the painter have changed over a century and a half.
The National Park "Lower Kama," located in the territory of Tatarstan, received a presidential grant for the implementation of the project "En Plein Air with Ivan Shishkin." The initiative combines art, history, and environmental education, offering park guests a new way to connect with the nature and cultural heritage of the region. The name of Ivan Shishkin is inextricably linked to these places. The great artist, a native of Yelabuga, drew inspiration from the picturesque surroundings of the Kama River. Two of his famous works — "On the Kama near Yelabuga" and "Holy Spring near Yelabuga" — were painted right here, in the territory of the modern national park. More than a century and a half has passed, and now visitors will have a unique opportunity to compare what the artist saw with what is visible today.
As part of the project, interactive easel stands will be installed in two historical locations — the Red Hill, where Shishkin painted his view of the Kama, and the Holy Spring. They will be designed in the form of picturesque easels, displaying reproductions of the artist's paintings. Comfortable benches will be placed nearby, allowing visitors to stop, examine the details, and compare the landscape of the past with the modern view.
The interactivity of the stands will allow park guests not just to view images, but to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Shishkin's creativity. Special elements will help illustrate what changes have occurred in nature over a century and a half: how the shoreline has changed, which trees have grown, and which have disappeared, and how humans have influenced these picturesque corners. For young visitors and art lovers, this will be a true lesson in history and ecology, presented in an engaging form.
However, the project does not stop at the installation of stands. The organizers plan to hold a series of plein air sessions for students of art schools. Young artists will have the opportunity to work in the same places where Shishkin once painted his studies and try to capture the modern landscape. Perhaps among them will be those who continue the tradition of the great master.
The project will also include themed excursions dedicated to the life and work of Ivan Shishkin, his connection to his native land, and the history of creating his famous canvases. For independent travelers, a special guide will be released to help plan a route through Shishkin's locations and learn interesting facts hidden from a superficial glance.
The initiative aims to address several important tasks. These include preserving cultural heritage, attracting attention to the unique nature of the national park, and developing ecological tourism. The project fully aligns with the goals of the national project "Ecological Well-Being," which aims to preserve natural territories and foster a caring attitude towards the environment.
For guests of the National Park "Lower Kama," the project will provide an opportunity to see familiar places in a new light. Instead of a typical nature tour — an immersion in history, art, and ecology at the same time. The easel stands will turn a walk into an exciting exploration, where everyone can feel a bit like an artist, a bit like a historian, and a bit like a guardian of nature.
The implementation of the project will begin after receiving grant funds. In the near future, the exact locations for the installation of the stands will be determined, design layouts will be developed, and preparations for conducting excursions and plein air sessions will commence. Residents and guests of Tatarstan will be able to appreciate the results in the coming months.
For those who love art, value history, and care for nature, the new attraction will become a place of interest. And for those who are not yet familiar with Shishkin's work and the beauties of "Lower Kama," it will be an opportunity to discover a wonderful world where painting meets reality, and the past speaks to the present.
