This was discussed at an off-site meeting held by Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, as reported by the city administration's press service. “<...> this year we will work on the improvement of five public spaces. One of the points is the square in front of the Butlerov monument on Pushkin Street, which is essentially the entrance to Lenin Garden. Let's make it worthy. There are a large number of students nearby: Kazan Federal University, Kazan Conservatory named after Zhiganov,” noted the city head. Currently, the square serves as a transit zone rather than a recreational area. There is a lack of greenery and resting places, and spontaneously parked cars hinder pedestrians and contribute to the creation of emergency situations. The improvement project aims to address these issues and provide a comprehensive rethinking of the area.

      The landscaping will also affect the section between Pushkin Street and the Butlerov monument. Lawns with an automatic irrigation system will be arranged. Additionally, it is planned to install an information stand dedicated to the great chemist. The installation of more than 50 small architectural forms, surveillance cameras, streetlights, as well as decorative lighting for the trees and the monument itself is also provided.

      The safety island between Pushkin and Nuzhina Streets is planned to be connected to the main square and landscaped. The organization of traffic will also be changed. The exit from Nuzhina Street to Pushkin Street will be widened and used for traffic going up to the KFU "UNICS" sports complex. Downward traffic on Nuzhina Street will be prohibited, and the road will become one-way.

      This scheme will help reduce the number of traffic jams occurring both on Nuzhina Street and at the "UNICS" sports complex, making pedestrian movement more comfortable, explained Alexey Gorbunov, director of the Kazan Development Institute. “Despite the heavy traffic, the priority task remains the creation of a comfortable environment for pedestrians without compromising the transport accessibility for motorists,” he assured.

      In addition, it is planned to replace the pavement and carry out granite work on ramps and stairs. In developing the concept, architects relied on the experience of reconstructing the entrance group of Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation, carried out in 2023. The work will begin with the dismantling of the old paving stones and the relocation of networks that fall into the construction zone.

      “Many cars pass through Pushkin Street, and it would be great for this place to look more presentable overall,” noted Aigul Latypova, head of the Kazan Parks and Squares Directorate.
