The State Ensemble of Song and Dance of the Republic of Tatarstan presented the premiere performance "Shurale: Echo of Kurlai."

On the eve of the 140th anniversary of the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay, the premiere of the vocal-choreographic performance "Shurale: Echo of Kylray" by the State Song and Dance Ensemble of the Republic of Tatarstan took place in the village of Baltasi. "Shurale: Echo of Kylray" is an ambitious reinterpretation of the first Tatar ballet by Farid Yarullin and the world-renowned Tatar fairy tale by Gabdulla Tukay. The State Ensemble of Tatarstan turned to the roots of national culture and transformed the classical ballet into a large-scale vocal-choreographic spectacle. The main feature of the production is its genre uniqueness. The State Ensemble of Tatarstan preserved the choreographic foundation of Leonid Yakobson and organically intertwined Tatar folk songs into the score: "Kara Urman," "Sandugach," "Almagachlary," and "Muglifa." The arrangement for the folk instruments ensemble was entrusted to composer Elena Anisimova. The choreographer of the performance was Ninelle Mochalova. Despite the innovative approach to classical heritage, the narrative thread remained untouched: the performance tells the story of the struggle between good and evil, the power of love, courage, and loyalty. According to the plot, an evil creature, Shurale, lives in a dense forest, played by the ensemble soloist Ainur Faizov. One day, he lies in wait for magical bird-girls and kidnaps the wings of the beautiful Syuyumbike (Honored Artist of Tatarstan Aigul Kiyamova). A brave Byltir (ensemble soloist Ayrat Zagidullin) comes to the rescue of the captive. He manages to outsmart the forest spirit and free his beloved. But Shurale does not give up: he sneaks into the village and kidnaps the girl a second time. Byltir rushes to chase him and engages in battle. At a crucial moment, Syuyumbike throws her wings into the fire for the sake of life with her beloved. Together, they escape from the burning forest. The people joyfully welcome the couple. "For us, it is very valuable that the premiere took place in Baltasi. Today's performance and the full house are a tribute and respect to the poet and his legacy," noted Ilgam Gaynutdinov, Deputy Head of the Baltasinsky District Executive Committee. "A huge thank you to the State Ensemble of Song and Dance of Tatarstan, a brand of Tatar culture that serves all Tatars of our world."

It is noteworthy that the audience of the premiere consisted of students from the schools of the village of Baltasi. According to Ilgam Gaynutdinov, the fate of the Tatar language and culture is in the hands of the younger generation. "The performance 'Shurale: Echo of Kylray' will be shown in small towns and villages of Tatarstan. In the fall, we will present it in Kazan," said the artistic director of the ensemble, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, People's Artist of Tatarstan Ayrat Khametov.
