      Drone attacks, missile threats — today threats are taking on new forms and scales. People are dying, safety is at risk — and this is obvious. But in addition to this, there is another, no less dangerous and often hidden threat — cyberattacks. Such impacts can cause damage that is at least as significant, and often many times greater than the consequences of physical explosions — especially in the context of the industrial sector, energy, and infrastructure. In the era of digital technologies, security becomes a critically important task, the solution of which depends on the stability and development of society. This and how the energy sector is adapting to new challenges was discussed by the chief expert of the information security group of JSC "TGK-16" Ayrat Sattarov.

      What do you need to know about the methods of modern cybercriminals?

      In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of cyberattacks on large companies both in Russia and abroad. These attacks are becoming increasingly complex and targeted, causing serious damage to businesses and infrastructure. For example, in Russia, there was the attack on "Aeroflot" or "WinLab." — Previously, when talking about security, we mainly meant economic security and perimeter protection. However, the external environment is changing rapidly, and new types of threats are emerging. Cybersecurity is coming to the forefront — an aspect that just recently seemed intangible and even fantastic. Back then, it was very expensive and difficult to implement. Today, however, the cost of cyberattacks has significantly decreased, and this trend continues to gain momentum. And our potential adversaries are increasingly taking advantage of this, which requires us to pay special attention and adopt new approaches to ensuring security, — says Ayrat Sattarov. According to the interlocutor, statistics show that the methods of attacks aimed at organizations and the methods of attacks on individuals almost completely coincide. In more than 50% of cases, social engineering is used. Malware is also widely used as one of the main methods of attack. — Social engineering is the most dangerous enemy of our information security because a person remains the weakest link in the protection system. The techniques are usually honed to automation, while a person who makes a mistake can be misled and take malicious actions. Standard methods of attacking people include messages sent via messengers and emails. Malefactors use clearly defined scenarios and well-known psychological tricks. They exploit our basic fears, the need to help, irritation, inattention, curiosity, greed, or the desire to avoid trouble, — notes Ayrat Sattarov.

      "Security is not always about comfort"

      The expert noted that the company is constantly working to enhance cybersecurity. — Within the company, we regularly work with the team: we organize training, send out newsletters, and maintain constant contact. Every day we keep our finger on the pulse to respond promptly to any changes. We replaced foreign software with domestic solutions, which allows us to enhance security and control. We also systematically implement the directives of government agencies, which provide us with scenarios and recommendations in the form of special scripts on a daily basis. This strategy helps us to always stay one step ahead and ensure reliable protection of information resources, — says the interlocutor.

      He emphasizes that the company operates in accordance with the law. — Security is not always about comfort and convenience; often it involves restrictions necessary to maintain the operability of systems. However, it is important to find a balance: to take measures for protection while caring for oneself and loved ones, — concluded Ayrat Sattarov.
