In Kazan, the best environmental protection practices were discussed: support for projects, volunteering, and environmental education.
At the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan, as part of the "Golden Turtle" festival, a session of the Presidential Nature Fund took place titled "Responsible for the Future: The Mission of Nature Defenders." The main theme was the real experience of implementing initiatives that received grant support from the Presidential Fund and the development of environmental education in the regions. Participants discussed specific practices already being applied in the Republic of Tatarstan and neighboring regions: working with youth and volunteers, developing environmental education programs, preserving natural areas, and involving local communities in conservation activities. Among the presented initiatives was the youth movement project "It Will Be Clean," "Protected Tatarstan," implemented with the support of the Ministry of Ecology of Tatarstan. It aims to engage schoolchildren and students in conservation activities and familiarize them with the work of specially protected natural areas; the project "On Plein Air with I.I. Shishkin" of the "Lower Kama" national park, which creates interactive points and conducts classes for students of art schools; the project "Guardians of the Blue Lakes," uniting volunteers and residents around the preservation of a unique natural area; as well as the project "The White-Waterless Will Not Be Without Water!" which conducts hydrological studies and prepares proposals for the restoration of water bodies. Special attention was given to projects related to the development of environmental education in urban environments, involving residents of Kazan in conservation agendas, and spreading practices of careful attitude towards nature. The session was moderated by Ekaterina Emets, a board member and program director of the Presidential Nature Fund. Participants included Lilia Sakhbieva, Deputy Director for Environmental Education, Recreation, and Tourism of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Park 'Lower Kama'"; Elena Unkovskaya, project leader of "The White-Waterless Will Not Be Without Water!"; Alexander Paigachkin, head of the environmental education project "Protected Tatarstan" of the RMEEO "It Will Be Clean"; Daria Tikhonova, curator for the development of natural areas of the Directorate for Natural Areas of the Fund "Institute for Urban Development of the Republic of Tatarstan"; Tatiana Davydova, director of the Fund for the Development of the Chuvash National Museum "Prokopy." Vladimir Kuznetsov, director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Park 'Bashkiria'," joined the session online.
During the event, participants discussed the progress of project implementation, exchanged experiences, and outlined key areas for further work, including the development of human resources in the field of nature conservation, expanding volunteer practices, and strengthening interaction between regions. For reference: The Presidential Nature Fund supported 6 conservation projects from the Republic of Tatarstan. The total amount of grants was 32.3 million rubles. The session in Kazan became a platform for presenting these projects and discussing practices that are already being implemented on the ground.
