The number of traffic accidents involving teenagers has increased in Kazan.

      In Kazan, the number of traffic accidents involving children has increased – in the first three months of 2026, 23 accidents were registered, and 24 teenagers were injured. This is 6 cases more than in the same period last year. This was reported by the head of the Kazan State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, Mikhail Savin, at a meeting of the city commission on road safety, chaired by the executive committee head Rustem Gafarov. Despite this, only one accident occurred due to children's negligence. In the other 22 cases, adults were at fault. Mikhail Savin also noted that in the summer, the number of traffic accidents involving teenagers without licenses usually increases. "They organize 'joyrides' on various vehicles borrowed from friends and acquaintances or by obtaining keys from their parents' cars. Among them are both those deprived of the right to drive and those who have never received a driver's license. The victims of such recklessness on the roads often turn out to be not themselves, but their passengers, often also children and teenagers," he explained. A similar situation is observed with teenagers on pit bikes, which are not intended for road use. Very often, teenagers involved in fatal accidents received the motorcycle as a gift from their parents. "Out of 14 seized pit bikes, only one has been returned to its owner so far; the rest remain in the impound lot. We are conducting comprehensive work with violators, their parents, and juvenile affairs departments," Savin said. To prevent child traffic accidents, games and quests teaching traffic rules have been proposed. As noted by the head of the Kazan education department, Irek Rizvanov, this will help to form basic skills for safe behavior in a playful manner. Before the summer holidays, preventive work will be intensified, and thematic events will be held in schools.
