All state universities in Russia have switched to digital student ID cards.
All state universities in Russia have switched to using electronic student ID cards. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Andrey Omelchuk. According to him, universities are now required to transmit student data to the state information system. "Now every university is essentially obliged to transmit information to the state information system... We have almost 5 million student IDs already created on the unified portal of state services... All state universities are already there," Omelchuk noted in a conversation with RIA Novosti. At the same time, the option to obtain a paper student ID remains available at the request of students. The deputy minister also expressed confidence that in the coming years, the digital format will completely replace the traditional one. "When will we move away from paper student IDs? I think that within two to three years, everyone will understand that a digital student ID is more convenient, practical, and effective," he added.
