      The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, today, April 26, proposed to celebrate the future 150th anniversary of Tukay at the federal level. He made this statement at a solemn ceremony at the Galiaskar Kamal Tatar State Academic Theater. This was reported by "Tatar-Inform." Minnikhanov noted that the corresponding decree should be issued by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and added that preparations for Tukay's anniversary will begin soon. April 26 is the birthday of the famous Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay (1886–1913). This day is also celebrated as Tatar Language Day. Today marks the 140th anniversary of the writer's birth. According to Minnikhanov, Tukay is an example not only for Tatars but for all Turkic peoples. He also mentioned that there is a possibility of involving representatives from foreign countries in the Tukay Prize, writes "Tatar-Inform." The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, also congratulated the residents on this day on his social media and wrote: "Peace, inspiration, and prosperity to the native language and dear culture!" In Russia, measures have been taken in recent years that have effectively made the languages of the indigenous peoples of Russia (other than Russian) optional. Thus, the state languages of the republics are not mandatory for all residents of these regions, and native languages can only be studied upon the request of the student's parents. These measures have been described as discriminatory and have faced criticism not only in Russia but also from several international organizations, including the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
