The ecologist proposed the most effective method for combating ticks and mosquitoes at the summer cottage.

      One of the main methods of combating ticks and mosquitoes in garden plots is regular grass mowing. This was reported to TASS by Vladimir Pinaev, an associate professor at the Institute of Ecology of the Russian Peoples' Friendship University. The expert noted that tall grass and cluttered areas create ideal conditions for insect breeding. Therefore, regular cleaning and mowing of grass are key measures to prevent their appearance. "Mowing the grass and removing excess from the plot should be done regularly—depriving ticks and mosquitoes of shelter. In the case of mosquitoes, it is also important to eliminate standing water on the site, such as barrels of water where these insects breed. This is the most effective way to combat them," emphasized Vladimir Pinaev. Pinaev added that it is impossible to completely eliminate the problem of ticks and mosquitoes if tall grass remains on neighboring plots. "If everything is fine on your plot and all the excess is removed, but your neighbor's grass is uncut—then, unfortunately, you will not get rid of mosquitoes; you need your neighbor's participation," noted the specialist. The ecologist also mentioned that various insecticides can be used for self-treatment of the plot, but their effectiveness significantly decreases if the grass is not removed beforehand. "It is still necessary to treat with special preparations strictly after mowing the grass and cleaning the plot; otherwise, the insects will simply hide from the insecticide, and there will be no effect from such treatment," the scientist emphasized.

      Pinaev reminded of the importance of carefully studying the instructions before using insecticides, as some of them can be dangerous for vegetable crops, animals, and children. During treatment, it is necessary to wear closed clothing, protective glasses, masks, and gloves.
