Veteran of the special military operation Almaz Garaev was one of the first to be called up during the partial mobilization in the fall of 2022. During his service, he went through the Luhansk and Donetsk directions, received two serious injuries, was awarded the Suvorov medal, and today continues to recover after surgery. Almaz Mansurovich Garaev was born in 1991. He was called up for service on September 30, 2022 — among the first wave of mobilized individuals. "The first time was hard. Rain, frost, we were settling in, digging trenches, getting used to new conditions," recalls the veteran. He served as a junior sergeant, a rifleman. He performed combat tasks in the Luhansk direction near the settlement of Makeevka. According to Almaz, the rare moments of communication with relatives were particularly memorable. "The happiest moments were when we managed to inform our relatives that we were alive and healthy. There was almost no communication; we went through officers to at least send a message to our mothers," he recounts. For his conscientious service, Almaz Garaev was awarded the Suvorov medal. Later, the unit was transferred to the Donetsk region, where heavy fighting was taking place for Avdiivka. The first injury the soldier received was in 2023 in the Luhansk People's Republic after a mortar shelling. After rehabilitation, he returned to duty a few months later. The second serious injury occurred in January 2024 in the Donetsk direction. "A kamikaze hit. The right side was severely damaged," says the veteran. After that, Almaz was evacuated to Russia, where he underwent treatment and long rehabilitation. In 2024, he was discharged due to health reasons. Today, Almaz Garaev is gradually returning to civilian life. Before mobilization, he worked at the organization "Nizhnekamsk Teplomontazh." The employer kept his job for him. Previously, he worked as a refractory worker, and after his return, he was transferred to the position of mechanic. "I continue to work. Right now, I'm on sick leave after surgery," he says. Before mobilization, Almaz served his conscription in Khabarovsk, where he was a driver in the motorized rifle troops.
