Gladkov and Bogomaz have resigned – Putin appointed new acting governors of border regions
Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed veteran of the Special Military Operation and Hero of Russia Alexander Shuvaev as acting governor of the Belgorod region. The president received Shuvaev in the Kremlin, as stated on the official website. The former governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, resigned at his own request. Shuvaev is a native of Novy Oskol in the Belgorod region. In 2002, he graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School. He participated in combat operations in the North Caucasus, military operations in Syria, and Ukraine. In 2025, Shuvaev completed the military personnel program "Time of Heroes," after which he became the deputy governor of the Irkutsk region. In that region, he oversaw interaction with law enforcement agencies.
At the same time, a new personnel appointment occurred in the Bryansk region. The current governor, Alexander Bogomaz, resigned. Putin temporarily appointed the chairman of the Luhansk People's Republic government, Yegor Kovalchuk, to replace him. Kovalchuk is a native of Chelyabinsk, with a background in economics and law. He previously served as the vice-mayor of Chelyabinsk for municipal affairs and held the position of deputy governor of the Chelyabinsk region from 2019 to 2023. Since July 10, 2024, he has been the chairman of the Luhansk People's Republic government.
It is worth noting that Bogomaz became the acting governor of the Bryansk region back in 2014 and later, in 2015, he became the governor. In 2020, he was re-elected for a second term. Meanwhile, Gladkov has headed the Belgorod region since 2020, serving in his position for over five years. According to TASS, citing the Bryansk region electoral commission, elections for the head of the region will be held on the unified voting day, September 20.
