Act Day 2026

      On May 14, a ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council took place in the assembly hall of Kazan State Medical University. More than 250 people attended the festive event, including representatives of the medical community from Russia and Tatarstan, foreign partners of Kazan State Medical University, healthcare veterans, graduates, staff, and students of the university. The meeting was opened by Acting Rector Ayrat Zakievich Farakhov: "The 212th year in the history of Kazan State Medical University has brought many significant victories and achievements. In 2025, as part of the implementation of the Development Program, the University transitioned to the target model of 'University of Technological Leadership,' based on the implementation of strategic technological projects and led the III group of participants in the 'Priority-2030' program. Alongside strategic technological projects, the University implemented projects for Strategic Goals. Work in each of these areas has ensured significant shifts in all key areas of work, changing the internal philosophy of our University: • each of the strategic projects advanced by 1 TRL (Technology Readiness Level) and gained resources, approaching the production stage of development, • the University entered the NTU (scientific and technical services) market and, together with KNIITU-KHTI, entered category A of suppliers for PJSC 'Sibur.' • advanced science-intensive educational programs are being developed; • ahead of the announced plan, an endowment fund has been established, and fundraising is underway; • the first small innovative enterprise (MIP) within the framework of the Development Program has been established and is functioning successfully; • the results of the research project 'Early detection of familial hypercholesterolemia in working-age individuals and their family members to reduce mortality from circulatory system diseases' have been included in the order of the industry ministry (Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation). KSMU firmly holds leading positions in the rankings of Russian medical universities. Our university entered the global Times Higher Education ranking, taking 4th place among Russian medical universities. The educational activities of the university demonstrate progressive development. This is evidenced by the high results of our students and residents in the state final certification, successful completion of primary accreditation, and victories in numerous competitions and olympiads. The university is expanding the range of educational programs. This academic year, training began for students in the specialty 'Psychology,' and licenses were obtained for the specialization program 'Clinical Psychology' and residency programs 'Laboratory Genetics' and 'Genetics.' The university is implementing 2 unique integrated programs at levels 5 and 9. In 2026, the first 13 foreign students will complete their studies under the integrated program '2+2+2.' Currently, a study is being organized to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of this strategically important project. This year, the implementation of the first joint educational program 'Medicine' in Russia and the Republic of Kazakhstan began. I am proud to announce that the program has passed international accreditation for compliance with the requirements of the World Federation for Medical Education for a period of 5 years. I congratulate our Kazakh colleagues who are present at our celebration today and thank our staff involved in this project. We will continue to open new educational programs aimed at training specialists who will ensure the technological leadership of the country and the university. Our students, residents, and postgraduates are undoubtedly our priority and often our pride. According to the monitoring of the quality of admissions to universities, we are in the TOP-25 universities in Russia in terms of admission quality. We select the best. And we graduate the best specialists. In 2025, we provided the country with 1610 graduates: specialists, bachelor's, master's (957 people), residency (422 people), postgraduate (28 people), and 203 specialists with secondary vocational education. I am confident that most of our graduates will enhance the glory of Kazan Medical University over the years and decades. In 2025, Kazan State Medical University continued the active implementation of youth policy and educational activities, focusing on the strategic goals of the development program 'Priority-2030' and the introduction of the Standard for working with youth in the 'MedMol' community. In the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, special attention was paid to patriotic education. A series of memorial actions 'Lessons of Memory' was conducted, covering more than 1460 students, and the project '80 Heroes of Our Alma Mater' was launched to create a virtual archive of graduates who participated in wars. The patriotic club 'Phoenix' organized 14 meetings with veterans and participants of the SVO, students participated in weaving camouflage nets and attended screenings of patriotic films. The overall coverage of patriotic events amounted to more than 30%. Our successes are a cumulative effect of all aspects of our activities, the result of traditions, high professionalism, selfless work of our staff, and conscientious study and active life position of the students. Kazan State Medical University was awarded the Order 'For Merits to the Republic of Tatarstan' based on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan dated August 6, 2024. The award was given for the outstanding achievements of the university's team in developing the healthcare system and significant contributions to training highly qualified specialists. After discussing the main results of the year, Ayrat Farakhov thanked the veterans who preserved and passed on the best traditions of the Kazan medical school. The hall welcomed the veterans of Kazan State Medical University with applause, and they were presented with flowers. Then, the participants of the ceremonial meeting honored with a moment of silence the memory of those who passed away this year. In conclusion of his speech, Ayrat Zakievich once again congratulated Kazan Medical University on its 212th anniversary. Since 1814, the tradition of delivering ceremonial speeches has been ongoing. This year, the honorary right to deliver a ceremonial speech was granted to the head of the Department of Cardiology, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Albert Sarvarovich Galyavich. Following the ceremonial meeting, the mantle of Honorary Professor of Kazan State Medical University was awarded to Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Evgeny Vladimirovich Shlyakhto. The decision to confer the title 'Honorary Professor of Kazan State Medical University' was made at the meeting of the Academic Council of Kazan State Medical University on March 25, 2026. Shlyakhto Evgeny Vladimirovich is the General Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution 'National Medical Research Center named after V.A. Almazov' of the Ministry of Health of Russia, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a professor, an outstanding Russian scientist, cardiologist, chief freelance cardiologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for the Northwestern, Volga, Southern, North Caucasian federal districts, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, and president of the Russian Society of Cardiology. The results of E.V. Shlyakhto's research are summarized in more than 800 publications, 16 inventions, and 2 discoveries, as well as several monographs. Under the direct supervision and scientific consulting of E.V. Shlyakhto, 20 doctoral and 57 candidate dissertations have been defended. E.V. Shlyakhto is a distinguished figure in science of the Russian Federation, a laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation award in the field of science and technology. He has been awarded the Order 'For Merits to the Fatherland' IV class and the Pirogov Order. The mantle, hood, and confederate cap of the 'Honorary Professor of Kazan State Medical University' were presented by Acting Rector of Kazan State Medical University Ayrat Farakhov. Following the ceremonial meeting, the names of the winners of various competitions were announced. Vice-Rector of Kazan State Medical University, Professor Diana Abdulganieva presented diplomas for the results of the competition 'Best Publication by a Young Scientist.' In the competition 'Best Publication by a Young Scientist' of Kazan State Medical University, the winners were: Ulyana Nikolaevna Zabolotnaya, Elena Valeryevna Valeeva, Karina Ravilievna Salakhova. Results of the competition 'Best Monograph': In the competition 'Best Monograph' of Kazan State Medical University, the winners were: Elena Valeryevna Krikun, Laysan Rinатовна Shakirova, Ildar Foatovich Akhtyamov. Best Inventor of Kazan State Medical University: III place - Rushaniya Ismagilovna Gabidullina, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. II place - Alena Vladimirovna Borisova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. I place - Ildar Fuatovich Akhtyamov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics, and Extreme Conditions Surgery. In 2019, grants from the International Scientific Council were established at Kazan State Medical University. This initiative aims to ensure the development of scientific research, increase the level of academic mobility, and foster international cooperation involving young scientists from our university.
