"Heritage Code": the use of new technologies in media was discussed at the "Kazan Forum"

      At the XVII International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum," a media forum titled "Code of Heritage: Digital Evolution of Meanings" took place. It was dedicated to the use of new technologies in journalism and media, as well as new opportunities and precautions against potential dangers. "Currently, the question also arises of how to use the opportunities of modern achievements for the benefit of preserving our cultural and spiritual heritage. According to him, information interaction between Russia and the countries of the Islamic world is becoming broader every year. And it is precisely the "KazanForum" that has become the main platform for discussing new approaches and technologies in this area. In today's realities, familiar communication formats are transforming in line with audience preferences. It is important not to lag behind trends and to adapt them for the preservation of national and cultural heritage, believes the head of the Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications "Tatmedia" Aidar Salimgaraev. "This year, about 400 journalists from 29 countries came to the 'KazanForum.' This indicates a high level of interest in the event worldwide. The geography is also expanding. Here, everyone can find something important and interesting for themselves," he noted. The forum participants included media leaders and well-known journalists from various countries of the Islamic world. They shared their suggestions and concerns regarding the use of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, in journalism. "We operate in an environment where deepfakes arise, and information is distorted. We are not just fighting against fakes, but advocating for the integrity of information. Another challenge is the preservation of sovereignty. Currently, most OIC countries cannot control how secure their history and values are," shared his assessment of the situation the head of the OIC Information Department Tarek Lajjal. He proposed several measures that, in his opinion, would allow the media community to navigate through the period of digital transformation. "The first is constant literacy improvement. We must go beyond simply publishing texts. It is important to learn how to use artificial intelligence technologies, large databases, and to keep pace with the times in terms of language," he is convinced. The second necessary point, in his opinion, is ongoing cooperation, which will help protect the information space from digital vandalism. The third factor is to keep in mind that all materials must be human-centered. Kazan remains one of the largest cultural centers in the world, so discussing the issue of implementing new technologies for heritage preservation here is particularly symbolic, added the General Director of the Union of Information Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Muhammad al-Yami. "The Union is working on using new technologies to achieve its goals. Artificial intelligence is at the core of our organization's work. We launched the 'Smart Editor' program to create media content and also conducted advanced training courses for journalists from Islamic countries," he said.

      Al-Yami particularly noted the contribution of the Republican Agency for Press and Mass Communications "Tatmedia," which assisted the union he heads in organizing various events. Among other proposals voiced at the media forum of the "KazanForum" were the holding of regular meetings of media leaders from OIC countries, the creation of a network of journalists from the Global South, and the establishment of ethical norms for the use of artificial intelligence in journalism.
