Representatives of European Aquatics may visit Kazan in June.

      In Kazan, representatives of the European Swimming Federation (European Aquatics) are expected to visit in June. This was announced by the Minister of Sports of Tatarstan, Vladimir Leonov. According to him, the delegation may arrive during the Russian Swimming Championship, which will take place in the capital of the republic. There is an ongoing dialogue about the possible hosting of the European Aquatics Championship in Kazan in 2028. "This championship was supposed to take place in Kazan in 2024. It was not canceled, but postponed. We have an official letter from the European Swimming Federation stating that it is planned to be held in 2028. We hope that representatives of the European federation will come to Kazan for the Russian Swimming Championship, which will take place in June, and we will start gathering a roadmap for this event," he said in a conversation with TASS. Leonov specified that work on organizing the possible tournament is being conducted in collaboration with the Russian Aquatics Federation. According to him, Kazan's sports infrastructure allows for hosting competitions: the main part of the events can take place at the Aquatics Palace, and 50-meter pools will also be used, while athletes will be accommodated in the Universiade Village. The minister added that the implementation of the project will largely depend on the international situation. "Now everything will depend on the geopolitical situation – how ready countries will be to come to our country, to Kazan, after almost two years. If a positive decision is made, we will try not to let anyone down and hold the tournament at the highest level," the minister emphasized.

      The European Aquatics Championship takes place every two years and includes competitions in swimming, open water swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and high diving. In 2026, the tournament will be held in Paris.
