Evgeny Iosifovich Sigal has passed away.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Yevgeny Iosifovich Sigal — an outstanding surgeon, scientist, educator, and one of the founders of Russian endoscopic surgery. Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, honored physician of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan, director of the surgical clinics of LDK-1 RKOD MZ RT named after Prof. M.Z. Sigal — Yevgeny Iosifovich dedicated almost half a century of his life to medicine. Since 1976, his professional path has been inextricably linked with the Republican Clinical Oncology Dispensary. Here he rose from a resident physician to one of the leading surgeons in the country, head of the surgical clinic, mentor, and teacher for several generations of specialists. Yevgeny Iosifovich was at the origins of domestic endoscopic and oncological surgery. He was the first in Russia to perform a number of complex thoracoscopic operations, actively implemented minimally invasive technologies into clinical practice, developed modern thoracic oncological surgery, and formed a surgical school known far beyond the borders of Tatarstan. His name was known throughout the country's oncological surgery. He was not only an outstanding surgeon but also a scientist, educator, and a person of the highest professional culture. Under his guidance, dissertations were defended, scientific works were created, and doctors from various regions of Russia and neighboring countries were trained. Just recently, Yevgeny Iosifovich was awarded the medal named after Mikhail Ivanovich Davydov for his contribution to the development of oncological surgery. The entire hall then rose in applause — as a sign of great respect for a person who dedicated his life to surgery and patients. Behind these achievements are thousands of saved patients, decades of service to the profession, devotion to his work, and immense love from students, colleagues, and patients. The bright memory of Yevgeny Iosifovich Sigal will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to work alongside him, learn from him, and know him. The medical community of the republic expresses its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
The funeral and civil memorial service will take place on May 20, 2026, at 10:30 at the address: Siberian Tract 29, in the service center.
