Lukashenko called the "Iskander-M" the machine of his dreams during a joint training with the RF Armed Forces.
The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, participated via video link in a joint training of nuclear forces, reported the Telegram channel "Pool of the First." In addition, the head of Belarus visited the command post, where he was shown the launch system of the Iskander-M missile system. Lukashenko called it a "dream machine." During the exercises, the military demonstrated a simulated nuclear strike using the Iskander-M. "I once dreamed of this machine. And today we have more than one. And you know better than I do that this is good weaponry," Lukashenko told the servicemen. The Belarusian leader also noted that Minsk and Moscow do not threaten other states, but intend to strengthen the defense capability of the Union State. "We absolutely do not threaten anyone. But we have such weapons and measures to protect our Homeland in every way — from Brest to Vladivostok, our common Homeland," Lukashenko emphasized. For his part, Putin stated that the nuclear triad should serve as a guarantee of the sovereignty of the Union State. "Special attention should be paid to the nuclear triad, which has been and remains a guarantee of Russia's sovereignty, playing a key role in ensuring the balance of power in the world," the president noted (quote from TASS). The training is taking place as part of the activities of the Union State. As previously reported, exercises on the combat use of nuclear weapons and ensuring their use by military units began in Belarus on May 18. From May 19 to 21, the armed forces of Russia and Belarus are conducting joint maneuvers to prepare for the use of nuclear forces in the event of an aggression threat. The maneuvers involve Russia's strategic missile forces, the Northern and Pacific fleets, long-range aviation command, as well as units from the Leningrad and Central military districts.
Recall that last week Russia successfully tested the intercontinental ballistic missile Sarmat. Putin stated that the missile will be put on combat duty by the end of 2026.
In February of last year, the State Duma ratified the treaty with Belarus on security guarantees within the framework of the Union State. The relevant document was submitted by Putin on February 5. According to it, the parties will consider an armed attack on a participant of the Union State as an act of aggression against all countries in the union. In response to the use of conventional weapons against one of the parties that threatens sovereignty or territorial integrity, Russian nuclear weapons may be used.
