In the kindergarten "Bälekäç," skills for safe behavior on the road are developed from preschool age.
As part of the special project of the "Bavly-inform" editorial office "Cultivating Road Culture," we share the experience of the kindergarten "Bälekäç."
How to teach a person to follow traffic rules? First of all, this should be done from a very early age. In the kindergarten "Bälekäç," teaching children the rules of safe behavior on the roads is not just a mandatory part of the program, but already a well-established tradition. The promotion of traffic rules here is well-organized: it is carried out systematically and involves everyone—from the children and educators to the parents. Each lesson on traffic rules is conducted in a playful manner. By playing, solving various riddles and puzzles, children learn to recognize dangerous situations on the road, memorize the meanings of signs, and practice algorithms for safe crossing. Riddles and puzzles here are not just entertainment: they engage the brain's logic, and repeated practice in play turns rules into automatic skills. Preschoolers eagerly take on the roles of pedestrians, drivers, and even traffic police inspectors. Thus, through emotions and actions, a conscious attitude towards safety is born, which stays with a person for a lifetime. – We actively engage with children on a daily basis to teach them the basics of road safety. This is not only important for their own well-being but also plays a key role in forming a responsible attitude towards the surrounding world. We study road signs with the children, teach them how to recognize and understand what each of them means, says kindergarten teacher Gulnaz Gizzatova. – We organize thematic lessons where children participate in role-playing games, simulating road situations. This helps them better remember information and apply it in practice. It is important for children to understand that road signs are not just pictures, but helpers that will help preserve their lives and health. In other words, we strive to cultivate a culture of behavior on the road in them, so they can confidently cross streets and moving traffic. Together, we can make our children more aware on the road. In the kindergarten "Bälekäç," each lesson is a small adventure. Educators use street models, traffic lights, wands, costume scenes, and even a physical education and gymnastics complex. By the way, the entire staff of the kindergarten is actively involved in forming safe behavior. Each group has its own so-called safety center with didactic materials that children can use independently. Everything necessary for lessons is constantly updated.
A special street zone simulating road conditions is also located near the kindergarten. The asphalt is clearly marked with road markings that simulate the roadway, pedestrian crossings, stopping zones, separation of traffic flows, and other elements of road infrastructure. Along the "roadway," during play-learning, traffic signs can be installed—often the most important for this age: "Pedestrian Crossing," "Children," "Main Road," "Bicycles Prohibited," "Bus Stop," "Underground Pedestrian Crossing," and others. During the game, educators can change their locations so that children learn to navigate in a changing environment, just like in real life. In this street area, depending on weather conditions, various events are also held, allowing children to better master the skills of safe behavior on the road. Special attention is paid to interaction with parents. Educators involve them in making materials for lessons, conduct joint creative projects, organize parent meetings, informational stands, and consultations with specialists to help parents become examples of proper behavior for their children. – The safety of children is one of the key areas of our work in the kindergarten. We understand the responsibility that lies on us and strive to create conditions that ensure maximum protection for each child, says the head of the kindergarten "Bälekäç," Elvira Zinnatullina. – Our educators use various teaching methods. These are interactive games that help children remember important rules in an engaging way. We also use fairy tales and cartoons: specially selected materials allow us to explain complex concepts in an accessible language. We definitely conduct various practical tasks, thanks to which children learn to apply knowledge in practice, for example, by role-playing road crossing scenes. We also actively cooperate with traffic police inspectors. We invite them to parent meetings, workshops, and other events that we conduct on a daily basis, as we have created all the necessary conditions for this. In the near future, we will hold many events; with the arrival of warm weather, our children will all be outside, and we need to tell them more often about safe behavior not only on the roads but also on the street in general.
At the kindergarten "Bälekäç," every day proves that safety is not boring. Play technologies, the personal example of educators and parents, and the lively interest of children—all work towards one goal. Graduates of this kindergarten enter the big world not just prepared, but with an internal habit of being attentive, responsible, and knowledgeable participants in road traffic. And this is the most important thing that adults can give. Photo by the author and Bulat Minyazov
