The capital of Tatarstan experienced a real tourist boom during the extended May holidays of 2026, welcoming, according to official data, about two hundred twenty-five thousand guests from various corners of Russia and abroad.
As reported on Monday at a traditional operational meeting by Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, the beginning of May in the city was extremely busy and filled with a variety of events that attracted travelers. The mayor emphasized that the residents of Kazan and guests of the republic's capital celebrated Victory Day on a large scale, with numerous sports tournaments and vibrant family festivals taking place simultaneously in the city, which, combined with the long weekends and beautiful weather, triggered a powerful surge in tourist activity and ensured almost full occupancy of hotels. According to "Real Time," Metshin particularly noted that the tourist flow during these days was quite diverse, including both residents of other Russian regions and foreign guests who took the opportunity to get acquainted with the city's thousand-year history. It is worth noting that the high interest of visitors in Kazan is indirectly confirmed by the statistics of the city's bike-sharing services. According to previously published data, tourists accounted for almost 30% of the total number of electric scooter users during the May holidays. Moreover, the most trips on rented transport during the festive days were made by guests from Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as residents of neighboring cities and regions, including Almetyevsk, Izhevsk, and Ufa. It was previously reported that a resident of Kazan traveled to China by bicycle in 38 days. In total, the man from Kazan rode over 4,000 kilometers by bicycle, and his 38-day route passed through the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
