Oncologists removed a tumor the size of an apple through a small incision.
At the Oncological Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan named after Professor M.Z. Sigal, a patient with a large prostate adenoma was admitted. The volume of the formation exceeded 120 cubic centimeters. Such sizes are considered extremely large and significantly increase the risk of complications. The situation was complicated by severe comorbidities. The patient's medical history included a heart attack, stroke, mechanical aortic valve, and systemic atherosclerosis of the vessels. The patient was continuously taking anticoagulants, so the open surgery was associated with high risks of both bleeding and thrombosis upon discontinuation of therapy. This case required not just one doctor, but an entire OncoCardio Team — a team of interventional radiologists, oncologists, and cardio-oncologists. At a multidisciplinary consultation, the specialists decided in favor of a minimally invasive endovascular intervention. The patient underwent embolization of the prostatic arteries with the exclusion of blood flow to the large adenoma. The operation was performed through a small puncture of the femoral artery under local anesthesia. Through a microcatheter, the interventional radiologists identified the pathological blood flow supplying the tumor and blocked it using special micro-emboli. After the blood supply was stopped, the adenoma gradually decreased in size. It was the collaborative work of specialists from different fields that allowed for the selection of a safe treatment strategy for a patient with a high risk of complications and to perform the intervention without discontinuing vital therapy. Without incisions, general anesthesia, and prolonged recovery, the patient returned to the ward shortly after the intervention and continued recovery under medical supervision. The patient feels well and is preparing for discharge.
Team of specialists:

- Interventional radiologist Rinat Niyasovich Khasanov;
- Oncologist, head of the oncology department No. 10 Nail Abulkaramovich Valiev;
