On June 1, the two-month sanitation and landscaping campaign in Kazan comes to an end. During this period, municipal services and thousands of residents have cleaned up over 22.5 million square meters of streets, 17.4 million square meters of roadside green areas, and more than 600 hectares of public spaces. As reported by the chairman of the external landscaping committee, Albert Shainurov, at a staff meeting, 296,000 cubic meters of waste were removed from city territories during the campaign, dozens of illegal dumps were eliminated, and the city's appearance was enhanced with new plantings of Siberian cedars. "Overall, the city has been washed and cleaned of winter dirt. Traditionally, this work was done not only by our municipal enterprises and management companies but also by businesses, educational institutions, and caring citizens. The results are indeed visible to the naked eye. Active greening of the city is underway, with annual flowers being planted. Just a couple more weeks, and the city will fully bloom with bright colors," noted the head of the executive committee, Rustem Gafarov. "Igor Vladimirovich, I ask you to conduct a review of the plants within a month, to mandate the replanting of new trees under warranty, and to report back in a month with the heads of districts on the work done in this direction."
As Albert Shainurov explained, landscaping also affected courtyard areas: cleanliness was restored in 3,900 courtyards. In addition, as part of the two-month campaign, employees of relevant services washed over 131 kilometers of safety barriers, put in order more than 55,000 road signs, and over 1,200 bus stop pavilions.
Special attention was paid to combating unauthorized dumps: 24 pollution hotspots were eliminated, from which over 2,100 cubic meters of garbage were removed. In total, 296,000 cubic meters of various waste were sent to city landfills during the two-month campaign.
A key event was the citywide cleanup day held on April 25. About 50,000 residents participated, along with employees from more than 4,300 enterprises and institutions. As a result of the cleanup, over 9,000 cubic meters of waste were removed, and 14 illegal dumps were eliminated. Employees of the Kazan city administration were particularly active: more than 3,000 representatives of the city executive committee cleaned up areas on Gavrilova, Chistopolskaya, Krasnaya Pozitsiya, Torfyana, and in the Russian-German Switzerland area. Anyone interested could participate in the cleanup. To do this, they needed to submit an application in a special section on the "My Kazan" portal and choose a location themselves. In just two weeks of the service's operation, more than 130 applications were received, including over 1,000 participants for local sites.
Over two months, 190 seedlings of Siberian cedars, brought from the "Imperial Nursery," were planted in Kazan. More than 110 of these trees were planted in Uritsky Park and "Savinovo" (on Gavrilova Street). The event in Uritsky Park was timed to the 65th anniversary of the first human flight into space, decorating the area with a theme of space discoveries and planet preservation. Near the Northern Station, 40 cedars were planted by representatives of youth organizations. Additionally, 40 trees adorned the "Youth" square, where employees of the city administration worked, noted Albert Shainurov.
On May 16, "Clean Games" took place at Lake Izumrudnoye, bringing together 450 participants and allowing for the collection of 307 bags of garbage. As a result of the ecological action, more than 3 tons of waste were sent for recycling.
Moreover, in April, an action to prevent vandalism on municipal property began, during which underground passages on Bolshaya Krylova Street were cleaned up. Youth organizations "Young Guard," student labor squads, and the committee for children's and youth affairs participated in the action. Participants washed the passages, cleaned surfaces of graffiti, and also cleaned and painted handrails. Similar activities took place in the underground passages on Nesmelova Street with the involvement of students from the River College. An action is planned in early June in the passage on Tashayak Street with the beneficiaries of the "Kind Kazan" project.
"It is valuable that during these two months, everyone approached the cleanliness of the city with great attention. Entire series of events were held by district administrations, the external landscaping committee, the parks and squares directorate, our colleagues from the Ministry of Ecology, city communities, business representatives, institutions, enterprises, and management companies. And they were joined by our most responsible residents – those who truly care and want to benefit their beloved city. We thank everyone whose efforts will make Kazan shine this summer," concluded Albert Shainurov. Alina Berezhnaya
