      The management of the Gorky Railway is considering the possibility of launching the high-speed train "Lastochka" on the route Nizhny Novgorod - Kazan. This was announced by the head of the GZhD, Sergey Dorofeyevsky, during the conference "PRO//Movement. Year of the Passenger." According to the head of the GZhD, the initiative arose against the backdrop of growing passenger demand for comfortable travel between cities. An important difference of the new route will be the reduction in the number of stops: if the electric train currently makes 12 stops, then the "Lastochka" will stop no more than three times. This is due to the increased comfort and speed characteristics of the train. In 2026, specialists already conducted a test launch of the train and collected the necessary data for analyzing the parameters of the future route. It is worth noting that recently, new generation electric trains began operating between Kazan and Izhevsk. The trains depart daily, with a travel time of about 5.5 hours, stopping in Arsk, Kukmor, Mozhga, and other cities.
