Metshin: Preparation for the "Russia – ASEAN" summit will accelerate infrastructure development

      The mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, stated that the preparations for the "Russia – ASEAN" summit will serve as a catalyst for the development of urban infrastructure. He announced this during a tour of key city facilities, as reported by the press service of the mayor's office. To accommodate 4,000 summit participants, 30 hotels will be involved. As part of the preparations, additional roadworks are planned on seven sections, the updating of overpasses, repair and painting of retaining walls, and the replacement and installation of bus stop pavilions. Metshin noted that the summit lasts several days, but the repaired roads and updated infrastructure will remain for the residents of Kazan. "All this renewal is being carried out with a long-term effect for the residents in mind. After all, the summit lasts several days, and the guests will not take the repaired roads with them," said Metshin. The first site inspected was the "Millennium Panorama" hotel, which opened last year. The complex consists of two buildings with 374 rooms. The hotel features a conference area of over 1,300 square meters. Metshin highly praised the level of staff preparation, noting that Kazan is renowned for its hospitality. The hotel also has a restaurant with a buffet and an egg breakfast station tailored to the guest's preference. Issues regarding the improvement of the adjacent area were discussed. The building frames under construction near the hotel will be covered with banners, and the area will be cleaned up. At the entrance, a floral arrangement with an irrigation system is planned, along with the installation of signs, a barrier, and road signs. Alexander Shavliashvili, the director of the tourism development committee, reported that other hotels have also undergone cosmetic repairs, replaced equipment, and upgraded room standards. At the "Kazan-1" railway station, the square in front of the station was inspected. The parking lot is designed for approximately 260 cars. A separate upper area for boarding and alighting buses is provided. On the territory of about 18,000 square meters, subsidence of the surface will be eliminated, landscaping will be updated, and a fountain will be adjusted. The improvement of the Bulak area was also checked. In 2024, for the BRICS summit, the fountain equipment will be replaced here. The cascade includes 56 floating fountains up to 15 meters high. The fountains are equipped with evening lighting, and along the channel, there is architectural and artistic lighting made up of four thousand lamps. For the new summit, damaged concrete elements and plaster layers are being restored, walls and fences are being painted. The final point was Cherynishevsky Street. According to the concept, linden trees will be planted along the street, the cobblestone surface will be updated, and benches, trash bins, and fences will be installed. The existing lamps in good condition will be preserved. Sculptural compositions dedicated to the history of this part of the city will appear on the street. An interactive area is planned — a model of the historical appearance of the shopping street.
