Putin: AI is already replacing junior staff and may displace the middle level.
The development of artificial intelligence may lead to a large-scale restructuring of the labor market and the displacement of some workers. This was stated by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, at the plenary session of the Eurasian Economic Forum in Astana. According to him, AI is already replacing junior-level employees in several areas, and in the future, it may also affect mid-level specialists. Putin noted that the labor market is being restructured due to the development of artificial intelligence. He suggested that millions of people could lose their jobs or be forced to change their profession in the future. "Entire professions may disappear because a computer mind will replace a human. In several areas related to process automation, documentation preparation and analysis, and software code development, artificial intelligence is already replacing junior-level employees, and in the foreseeable future, it may also replace mid-level staff," the Russian leader pointed out. He called such processes irreversible and inevitable. "Progress does not stand still. We need to be ready for the upcoming changes. And even better, use them as a driver for accelerated economic growth," Putin added. The president also noted that Russia has the intellectual potential for the development of artificial intelligence. According to him, this process is actively developing both in education and in academic science. At the same time, the country understands "the opportunities and risks of implementing the relevant technologies," Putin remarked. During his speech, the Russian leader also proposed to hold a high-level meeting on artificial intelligence in Russia next year. At this meeting, he said, the development of sovereign AI models, the formation of a unified computing and energy infrastructure, as well as the adaptation of technologies to local needs could be discussed.
Recall that today the EAEU summit started in Astana. Before the event began, Putin met with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. They signed joint documents, including a statement "On the 7 Foundations of Friendship and Good Neighborliness of the Peoples" of the two states.
