Tatarstan has become the leader in the Volga Federal District in digitizing archives.
To develop this area, the department actively attracts IT specialists. The Republic of Tatarstan took first place in the Volga Federal District in terms of digitizing archival documents. Over the past year, specialists have converted nearly 3 million pages into digital format, making history more accessible to every resident. A technological breakthrough occurred within the framework of the "Development of Archival Affairs in the RT" program. As reported at the meeting of the State Archive Committee, more than 15,000 cases were converted to digital format in just one year. These are not just dry numbers: now valuable documents, photographs, and letters from front-line soldiers can be studied online without leaving home. The archival service emphasizes that the time of "paper" queues is coming to an end. Today, the priority is to make the archive an interactive and modern space. Residents of the republic can independently search for information about their ancestors through online services, and schoolchildren use digital archives to study letters and photos of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War. In addition, just in the past year, archivists prepared nearly 700 exhibitions, about 300 of which are available online around the clock. Gulnara Gabdrakhmanova, the chairwoman of the State Archive Committee of Tatarstan, believes that archives today should not just store papers but work with people. The main task is to ensure that every document finds its reader and that historical facts help dispel myths and are interesting to young people. To develop this area, the department actively attracts IT specialists. Currently, the republic's digital archival resources already have more than 4,000 permanent subscribers, and their number is constantly growing. An important step towards expanding accessibility was the cooperation agreement between the State Archive Committee of the RT and the republican branch of the Social Fund of Russia. This partnership will allow for faster information exchange and improve the quality of service for citizens.
