In Chelny, two couriers who were working for scammers in Moscow were caught.
In Naberezhnye Chelny, police detained two couriers who had taken a "side job" with remote scammers. The criminals swindled an 18-year-old resident of Moscow out of 17.5 million rubles, and the Chelny residents volunteered to deliver the "big haul" to a specified address for a reward. According to TASS, citing the press service of the Moscow Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, as a result of operational-search activities, detectives detained two suspects in the automotive city – a 24-year-old and a 32-year-old local residents. The victim of the scammers answered a call from an unknown person who informed him about the need to replace the intercom keys and dictated a code from an SMS. After that, he began receiving calls from various government agencies claiming via video link that the criminals had gained access to his personal account and had also issued a power of attorney in his name to a criminal. The scammers learned that the young Muscovite had a large sum of money and a kilogram gold bar. Then the fraudsters demanded that he hand over the valuables to their representative for declaration to avoid legal consequences. The young man complied – he packed the bar and currency into a backpack and handed it over to a stranger who provided a code word. Once at home, the young man realized he had fallen victim to fraud and sought help from the police. A criminal case was initiated for fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The role of the Chelny residents in this scheme was simple at first glance. The detainees found a side job on the internet. According to the investigation, for a monetary reward, they traveled to Moscow, collected the money handed over to them by a woman directed to the victim, and then sent it to their curators. Preliminary data suggests that the girl handed the gold bar to other accomplices, and its whereabouts are being established.
