Russian Language Day – literary meetings and quests based on Pushkin's fairy tales
Every year on June 6, the birthday of Alexander Pushkin, Russia celebrates Russian Language Day. In Tatarstan, literary meetings, quizzes, quests, and festive programs dedicated to the life and work of the poet will take place on this day. In Kazan, events of the VII Festival of Russian Culture "PushkinFEST" will be held in the "Black Lake" park. Guests can expect a crafts fair and master classes, a family excursion "Pushkin in the footsteps of Pugachev," folk games and entertainment, as well as a four-hour marathon of performances by creative groups. The program will conclude with a youth evening party outdoors.
Districts of the republic will also join the celebration. Thus, at 10:00 in Kukmor, at 36 Lenin Street, a literary hour "On the Paths of Lukomorye" will take place, where young participants will get acquainted with the heroes of Pushkin's fairy tales and participate in a quiz. At the same time, in the Central Park of the village of Bazarniye Mataki in the Alkeyevsky district, the game "Divination by Pushkin" will be held, and at 13:00 in the village of Pochinki-Novolyashevo in the Tyutyushsky district, a fairy tale quest "Journey through Lukomorye" will take place.
In Bugulma, the festive program "Through the Centuries with an Immortal Line" will be held at 17:00 in the square of the House of Technology. Guests can expect a concert, public readings of Pushkin's works, thematic games, and interactive sites.
Sabantuy – fairs, horse racing, and national wrestling
In many districts of Tatarstan, Sabantuy will be celebrated on Saturday. One of the first festive venues will open in the "Birch Grove" park in Zelenodolsk – events will start at 9:00. Guests can expect a concert program, folk games, and competitions. Additionally, as part of the celebration, the Zelenodolsky district cycling championship will take place.
At 10:00, Sabantuy will begin at Lake Rabiga in the Bolgar Spassky district. The program includes a fair of folk crafts, sports competitions, horse races, a struggle for the title of batyr, and performances by artists. At 11:00, residents and guests will be invited to Sabantuy in the Menzelinsky district, where folk festivities, competitions, and a concert program will take place in the square.
On the same day, Sabantuy will be held in the Apastovsky district. The celebration in the district square will start at 10:00. Guests will be treated to a theatrical prologue, honoring agricultural leaders, performances by creative groups, horse races, and sports and national games. In the afternoon, spectators can expect a motorcycle show, quad bike races off-road, a presentation of national dishes, and a large concert featuring artists from Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.
At 14:00, Sabantuy will begin in the Vyzovka River area in Kamsky Polyany of the Nizhnekamsk district, and at 15:30, festive events will unfold in the culture and recreation park of the village of Verkhny Uslon. Guests will enjoy traditional games, fairs, performances by creative groups, and competitions in the national wrestling "köräş."
In Sarmanovo – the traditional embroidery festival "Sölge tuy"
On June 6, a district festival-exhibition "Sölge tuy" ("Towel Holiday") will take place in the Sarmanovsky district at the "Dauly bolyn" square, which will be part of the Sabantuy celebration. It is dedicated to the traditions of national embroidery and the folk heritage of the district's residents.
Guests will be able to see an exhibition of household items and samples of ancient embroidery from the Tatar, Russian, Mari, Chuvash, and Koryash peoples. The program also includes a parade of embroidered towels, the work of a thematic interactive site, and a concert featuring creative groups from the district.
Master classes in national embroidery and traditional crafts will be organized for children and adults. Participants will have the opportunity to try weaving at the loom, making towels with national patterns, and learning about the techniques of embroidery for hats, wallets, and woolen products using ancient technologies.
In the Drozhzhanovsky district – the Chuvash holiday of the plow Akatuy
Also on Saturday, Tatarstan will celebrate the Chuvash national holiday of the plow Akatuy. It will take place at 10:00 in the village of Novy Ubei in the Drozhzhanovsky district and will gather guests from all over the district.
Akatuy is one of the main holidays of the Chuvash people and symbolizes the completion of spring fieldwork. The holiday combines folk rituals, cultural traditions, and sports competitions.
Participants will enjoy a concert program featuring creative groups, including the Chuvash State Academic Song and Dance Ensemble. There will also be craft master classes and trade rows at the venue. Guests can participate in the "Akatuy Piki – 2026" contest and observe sports competitions in wrestling, arm wrestling, tug-of-war, and pole climbing.
In Naberezhnye Chelny – the cross in memory of Minulla Chinkina
On the same day, the 12th inter-municipal athletics cross-country competition dedicated to the memory of the honored coach of the RSFSR Minulla Chinkina will take place in Naberezhnye Chelny. The start is scheduled for 16:00 in the "Pribrezhny" park.
The traditional tournament annually gathers athletes from various cities and districts of Tatarstan. Participants will have to cover distances from one to five kilometers, and both novice athletes and experienced runners will take part.
The competition is dedicated to the memory of Minulla Chinkina – an honored coach of the RSFSR who trained many famous athletes. The program will conclude with a traditional veterans' run.
In the Vysokogorsky district – the Petrovsky Fast
On Sunday, June 7, folk celebrations dedicated to the cultural traditions of various peoples of the republic will continue in Tatarstan. One of the venues will be the village of Shumany in the Vysokogorsky district, where at 11:00 on the shore of the lake, the VII Russian traditional holiday "Petrovsky Zagovenye" will begin.
Guests can expect a rich program dedicated to Russian folk culture. Traditional games, dances, and round dances, competitions in lifting weights, an intellectual quiz for youth, and chastooshka battles will be organized for visitors. One of the most spectacular events of the holiday will be the fistfight "wall to wall."
Creative groups from Tatarstan and the Vysokogorsky district will perform as part of the concert program. The headliners of the holiday will be the creative association "Village Cat" led by Vasilisa Filatova, as well as Valentina Klyushina from the Laishevsky district and Elizaveta Krylova from Naberezhnye Chelny.
In the Leninogorsk district – the Mordovian "Baltai"
Also on June 7, the national Mordovian holiday "Baltai" will take place in the village of Mordovskaya Karmalka in the Leninogorsk district. Every year, it gathers folklore groups and guests from different districts of Tatarstan and introduces visitors to the unique traditions, songs, and rituals of the Mordovian people.
According to legend, the history of the holiday is connected with a hermit named Baltai, who appeared in the forest near the village in 1902. One day, he walked through the village, decorating himself with maple branches to delight the local children. Over time, this story became the basis for the folk holiday celebrated on the first Sunday after Trinity. Today, "Baltai" is considered one of the most colorful ethno-cultural events in the republic, where one can see national costumes, hear ancient songs, and learn about the traditions of the Mordovian people.
The holiday will begin at 10:30 at the ritual clearing in the forest, where creative and folklore groups will perform. Participants will then conduct the national game "Kikerykai," choose and dress the main characters of the holiday – the "bear family." After that, a traditional procession through the village streets will begin, led by a figure of a bear. According to ancient custom, it is decorated with maple branches and ferns. Guests can also expect folk songs, round dances, treats from the national cuisine, and an ancient ritual symbolizing wishes for health, prosperity, and a good harvest.
