On June 11 at 14:00, an exhibition dedicated to traditional Tatar hand weaving will open at the Museum of the History of the Statehood of the Tatar People and the Republic of Tatarstan, as reported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan. The exhibition will showcase unique samples from the collection of Gulshat Nugaybekova, which she has been gathering for over 20 years. According to the report, visitors will see textile products for home decoration: tablecloths, carpets, rugs, curtains, canopies, and towels. Clothing items will also be presented – traditional costumes of the Perm Tatars and Kryashens, a wedding belt, and a tastar. The exhibition vividly demonstrates the process of fabric production – from obtaining plant fibers to the finished product – and tells about the centuries-old tradition of patterned weaving, which has been passed down from generation to generation and was an important part of the bride's dowry. The exhibits illustrate the role of hand weaving in rituals, its gradual decline in the 20th century due to social changes, and its revival in the 21st century through new brands and the transfer of skills to young craftswomen. Personal stories emphasize the connection between the past and the present. The unique collection began with handwoven items made by the collector's great-grandmother and has grown into a significant collection that preserves the heritage of Tatar weaving. An important addition to the exhibition will be the works of photographer and journalist, Honored Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Mukhametzyanov. His reportage photographs convey the atmosphere and mood of the captured events.
The exhibition will run until September 6, 2026.
