       In Nurlat, in one of the residential buildings, a pigeon got stuck in the chimney of a gas water heater and caused carbon monoxide poisoning in four people: two children and two adults.

       An emergency incident involving household gas occurred in one of the residential buildings in the city of Nurlat, Republic of Tatarstan, resulting in the urgent hospitalization of four people, including two minor children. The cause of the incident, which nearly turned into a tragedy, was a bird that got into the ventilation system. According to the press service of the State Housing Inspection of Tatarstan, the poisoning from gas combustion products affected children born in 2013 and 2018, as well as a woman born in 1985 and a man born in 1979, who were taken to a medical facility. According to the agency, the planned technical maintenance of the internal gas equipment in residential building number 2 on Karl Marx Street, where the incident occurred, was carried out recently, in April 2026, and no violations were identified at that time. Upon inspection after the incident, specialists found that there was draft in the chimney itself, and the ventilation channel was functioning properly; however, a pigeon was discovered stuck in the corrugated pipe of the gas water heater, which blocked the discharge of carbon monoxide into the atmosphere. Currently, the State Housing Inspection continues to investigate all circumstances of the incident. Earlier, it was reported that a resident of Kazan gave a courier of scammers 10 million rubles to supposedly carry out the process of "declaring" the funds after receiving a message about a hack of State Services.
