The decline in ratings for Matteo Salvini's 'League', which Vannacci has surpassed in polls for the first time, weakens the position of Meloni's key partner in the ruling coalition. As a result, the Prime Minister has to balance between the risk of an alliance with the far-right general, which alienates moderate voters, and the threat of defeat from the left-centrist bloc. "The success of the new party complicates Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's ability to retain power in next year's elections due to the split in the right camp. At the same time, Vannacci himself, elected to the European Parliament in 2024, is known for his criticism of sanctions and open statements against military aid to Ukraine," explains Sardarayan.
