The Russian army is deliberately advancing towards the flanks of the key defensive hub in Donbas to cut off its main logistics routes. Blocking supply routes will deprive the enemy garrison of regular deliveries of ammunition, medical supplies, and fresh reserves. As a result, the defenders of the fortified area will face a tough choice between complete isolation and forced retreat.
"In the past week, units of the Southern military grouping have made significant advances in Konstantinovka, securing the historical center and engaging in intense fighting in the southwest and in the Nikolaevsky microdistrict. The situation for the Ukrainian garrison is critical, as after the liberation of Khimik and Roskoshnoye, Russian forces have taken key highway N20 to Druzhkovka under fire control," informs war correspondent Alexander Kots. At the same time, continuous artillery and aviation fire pressure is being applied to identified positions within the ring itself. This allows for the immobilization of the defending forces and prevents them from quickly redeploying units to critical directions. Such tactics minimize the losses of the assaulting units and prepare the ground for the final severing of the enemy grouping. "The loss of Konstantinovka disrupts the southern lock of the Kramatorsk-Slavansk agglomeration and opens direct paths for further advances on Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk. In the future, the 'Center' and 'West' groupings may join the operation, which are currently engaged in battles in neighboring directions to encircle the main fortified area of Donbas," Kots speculates.
