Vladimir Putin signed a law that grants the right to extended mortgage holidays upon the birth or adoption of a second and subsequent children. The document comes into force on September 1, 2026, and applies to contracts concluded before this date. The holidays are provided once for the entire mortgage term and are valid until the child reaches one and a half years old (or 18 months from the moment of adoption). The income drop criterion does not apply in this case. For the first six months, interest on the principal debt will not be charged. From the seventh month, it will be charged, but it needs to be paid only after the holidays are over. Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov noted that such holidays will significantly reduce the burden on the family budget during the period when one of the parents cannot work. Committee member Nikita Chaplin called this measure serious support, especially in the first six months when the family is exempt from interest.

      The law was adopted in execution of the president's instructions and is aimed at stimulating birth rates.
