The Zainsk court issued a sentence for a bribe of 175 thousand rubles for the illegal acquisition of a driver's license.
The Zainsk City Court of the Republic of Tatarstan found a local resident guilty of bribing traffic police officers through an intermediary and sentenced him to imprisonment and a large fine. The Zainsk City Court of the Republic of Tatarstan examined a criminal case against local resident G., accused of giving a large bribe through an intermediary to officials for committing knowingly illegal actions (paragraph "b" of part 4 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). As established by the court, at the end of 2024, the man, who had previously been deprived of his driver's license for driving under the influence of alcohol, attempted to restore his right to drive a vehicle legally. He passed the theoretical exam at the traffic police department in the Almetyevsk district, but did not succeed. After the unsuccessful attempt, the citizen decided to obtain a driver's license illegally. To implement his plan, he involved an acquaintance—a police officer who acted as an intermediary. According to the court, the man transferred 175,000 rubles through the intermediary, which he received from his mother. The woman was unaware of her son's criminal intentions and believed that the money was needed for household needs. After some time, the intermediary returned the examination sheet to the defendant with a fictitious mark indicating that he had passed the exam. Based on the forged document, G. received a driver's license. The criminal scheme was uncovered after the intermediary-police officer confessed and reported the bribery. Subsequently, the defendant also admitted his guilt. The defense insisted on terminating the criminal case, pointing to the defendant's active remorse and charitable activities. However, the court found that G.'s confession was not voluntary, as by the time he approached the investigative authorities, they were already aware of the crime from the intermediary's testimony. Considering the circumstances of the case, the court concluded that the committed crime falls into the category of particularly serious offenses. At the same time, mitigating circumstances were taken into account, including full admission of guilt. As a result, the court imposed a sentence of 3 years of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony, as well as a fine of 350,000 rubles—twice the amount of the bribe. After the verdict was announced, the court changed the measure of restraint, and the convicted person was taken into custody directly in the courtroom. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
