The Traffic Police of Tatarstan announced the start of the "Oncoming Lane" raids.
From July 15 to 28, a large-scale preventive event "Oncoming Lane" will take place in Tatarstan. The reason is more than serious: since the beginning of the year, 49 people have died due to driving into oncoming traffic.
From July 15 to 28, the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of Tatarstan will conduct the preventive event "Oncoming Lane," aimed at curbing one of the most dangerous violations of traffic rules. The alarming statistics prompted increased control: this year, there have been ninety-eight traffic accidents due to driving into oncoming traffic in violation of traffic rules. In these accidents, forty-nine people died, and one hundred fifty-six road users were injured to varying degrees, making this type of violation one of the deadliest on the roads of the republic.
Driving into oncoming traffic, especially on rural roads and in areas with limited visibility, often leads to head-on collisions, which almost always result in severe consequences for all participants in the accident. That is why the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate will pay special attention during the raid to road sections where such violations occur most frequently, as well as use both stationary photo and video recording cameras and mobile posts. Drivers should remember that a fine of seven thousand five hundred rubles is imposed for driving into oncoming traffic in violation of the rules; however, in certain cases, the violator may be deprived of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of four to six months. A particularly severe penalty awaits those who commit such a violation again — in this case, the law provides for the deprivation of driving rights for a whole year. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reminds that such raids are not conducted to punish drivers but to prevent tragedies and preserve the lives and health of people. Every driver should realize that a few seconds of inattention or the desire to overtake at any cost can cost the life of themselves, their passengers, and other road users. Take care of yourself and your loved ones, follow traffic rules, and remember that safety starts with each of us.
