Roskachestvo: watermelons with cracks and cuts should not be purchased.
Watermelons with cracks, punctures, dents, or those that are cut should not be purchased. This was stated by Elena Spetsenko, director of the Food Safety Competence Center of Roskachestvo, to "Lenta.ru". According to her, such damage allows bacteria to access the sweet, moist environment, so these fruits are categorically not recommended for purchase. Other dangerous signs include a loose structure, an unusual taste or smell of the flesh, and yellow or brown streaks instead of white ones. Watermelons lying on the ground or cut, in her opinion, become an incubator for intestinal infections. Spetsenko added that the seller must have a declaration of conformity from the manufacturer, a personal medical book, and information about the legal entity.
