Trump announced negotiations with Iran on Monday – oil prices dropped sharply.
Negotiations between Washington and Tehran will begin today in the afternoon. This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump to reporters aboard Air Force One. The American leader said he agreed to hold talks at the request of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar. Furthermore, according to the American leader, the Iranian side is also interested in the dialogue. "I would prefer to make a deal. I don't like killing people," Trump said (quote from "Interfax"). Against the backdrop of the announcement, oil prices sharply declined. The price of October futures for Brent fell by more than 8% to $82.95 per barrel during trading, according to trading platform data. American oil of the WTI grade decreased by more than 5.5%, approximately to $80 per barrel. At the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a series of phone conversations with foreign colleagues. The IRNA agency reports that the head of Iran's foreign ministry discussed the situation in the Middle East with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and the Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The interlocutors discussed the regional situation and prospects for strengthening cooperation between the countries. Notably, negotiations with representatives of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have already been the second in the last 24 hours, the agency notes. Recall that the escalation between the countries began after Trump stated that he considered the ceasefire with Iran to be over. Subsequently, the U.S. imposed a naval blockade against the Islamic Republic, and Iran declared Trump-related facilities in the UAE and Saudi Arabia to be legitimate targets.
Later, the media reported that CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper presented Trump with a plan for a large-scale air operation against Iran, designed to last 10-14 days. The plan involved a series of intensive airstrikes on facilities related to Iran's missile infrastructure.
