The first "Okroshka Festival" will take place on August 8 and 9 at the museum-reserve "Island-town Sviyazhsk." The gastronomic holiday will open a series of events dedicated to seasonal dishes of Russian cuisine. The festival will be held in the height of the tourist season. The organizers hope to introduce guests to the culinary traditions of the region and show how diverse one of the most popular summer dishes can be. All catering establishments on the island will present their own versions of okroshka. Visitors will be able to try the ancient "Levshin Okroshka" with brine at "Traktir," a dish from the famous book "On Tasty and Healthy Food" at "Buyan," "Burlatskaya Okroshka" with pike-perch at the "Rybatskoye Podvorie" cafe, classic okroshka with baked meat at "Yolki" cafe, as well as monastery okroshka in the dining room of the John the Baptist Women's Monastery.
According to the organizers' concept, the festival will allow guests not only to taste different versions of the dish but also to trace its history – from ancient and monastery recipes to Soviet culinary classics. The "Okroshka Festival" will be a pilot project of a series of gastronomic events dedicated to seasonal dishes and local traditions. In the future, the organizers plan to make it annual and expand the program with new festivals dedicated to Russian cuisine.
