      At night and during the day on August 8, 2026, thunderstorms are expected in some areas of the Republic of Tatarstan and in Kazan, with short-term wind gusts of 15-20 m/s, possible hail, and heavy rain in the morning and during the day.

      The population is advised:

      During a thunderstorm:

      1. If you are caught in a thunderstorm while riding a bicycle or motorcycle, be sure to stop and wait out the storm at least 30 meters away from your vehicle. Do not continue driving a car, as there may be disruptions in the operation of electronics. You should stop, close the car windows, and wait out the bad weather.

      2. If you are in an open area during a thunderstorm, it is recommended to lie down on the ground (on sandy or rocky soil), preferably in a low area. It is important that there is no river, lake, or pond nearby, as water is a good conductor, and a lightning strike can spread within a radius of 100 meters from a water body.

      3. Drivers should be extremely careful while driving.

      4. Pedestrians should exercise increased caution when crossing highways and when near them.

      5. If possible, refrain from long-distance travel.

      During strong winds:

      1. It is recommended to limit going outside, stay indoors. It is important not to leave children unattended.

      2. If strong winds catch you outside, it is advisable to take shelter in underground passages or building entrances. Do not hide from strong winds near building walls, as roofing materials such as slate may fall from the roofs. This also applies to public transport stops and unfinished buildings.

      3. Stay away from advertising billboards, signs, traffic signs, and power lines.

      4. Do not stay near large trees, and do not park vehicles near them – broken branches can pose a significant danger.

      5. It is deadly dangerous to stand under power lines and approach downed power lines during strong winds.

      6. Broken glass falling from upper floors, as well as roofing elements and decorative plaster blown off by the wind, can pose a danger. This threat increases near construction or renovation sites.

      7. All windows in houses must be tightly closed, and items that could fall outside should be removed from balconies and loggias.

      8. Stay as far away from windows in residential or work premises as possible.

      9. If possible, refrain from long-distance travel.

      10. Pedestrians are advised to cross the street only at designated pedestrian crossings. Do not run across the road in front of moving vehicles, as the braking distance of a car significantly increases due to slippery road surfaces. Move only against the flow of traffic. Use a high-visibility vest or attach reflective elements to your clothing.

      During hail:

      If you are in a car, stay away from the windows, preferably turn your back to them (facing the center of the cabin) and cover your eyes with your hands or clothing. If you have small children with you, cover them with your body and also shield their eyes with clothing or your hand. It is best to lie on the floor (if space allows). If you are driving, stop moving. However, first look around (if visibility allows) for nearby shelter (bridges, overpasses, garages, covered parking). If there is no suitable shelter nearby, make sure you are not in the middle of the roadway, and if possible, move closer to the edge. However, keep in mind that pulling off to the shoulder (especially in a low area) is dangerous, as it may wash out during heavy rainfall and possible flooding. Also, do not drive into areas where hail is accumulating, as your vehicle may lose control. Under no circumstances should you leave the vehicle during hail! Remember that the average duration of hail is about 6 minutes, and it rarely lasts longer than 15 minutes.

      If hail catches you indoors, stay as far away from windows as possible and do not leave the house. Do not use electrical appliances, as hail is usually accompanied by thunderstorm activity. If hail catches you outside, try to find shelter. Otherwise, protect your head from hail impacts. Do not go into low areas that can fill with water in minutes and turn into a swift current, or into places with the highest accumulation of hail, where the layer is clearly thicker than around. Do not try to find shelter under trees, as there is a high risk of lightning strikes and large hail can break tree branches, which can cause you additional injuries. If you or someone nearby is injured by large hailstones, be sure to contact emergency services, indicating the approximate size of the hailstones.

      How to protect yourself during heavy rain:

      1. Upon receiving information about heavy precipitation, refrain from traveling around the city, and if possible, stay in your apartment or at work. Turn on wired and radio broadcasting.

      2. If a downpour catches you outside:

      Do not go down into underground passages and other sunken areas. Try to take shelter in buildings located above the possible flooding level.

      3. If a downpour catches you in a building:

      If the building (room) you are in is flooding, try to leave it and move to the nearest elevated area.

      4. If a downpour catches you in a personal vehicle:

      Do not attempt to drive through flooded areas. Slowly move to the far right lane (to the shoulder) and, without emergency braking, stop. Turn on your hazard lights and wait out the downpour. In case of rapid water accumulation, leave the vehicle and move to a higher area or the nearest building.

      If you are driving, stop moving. While in the vehicle, stay away from the windows.
